Neil Thomson was born and brought up in Sri Lanka and Kent. He obtained a degree in Geography at King’s College/London School of Economics, London University. He then obtained a postgraduate diploma in Landscape Architecture in the Department of Architecture at Edinburgh University in 1974.

After graduating he worked in the private sector for Derek Lovejoy and Partners and was posted to work on the planning of a new town in Southern Iran. He subsequently worked on the masterplan for the new city centre of Tehran, having transferred to Llewelyn Davies. Returning to the UK he worked on the detailed design of Gulf University, Qatar and subsequently on the environmental impact study for the development of a coalfield in the East Midlands. He then worked as a consultant on a range of UK and overseas projects including projects in Egypt for RMJM, the planning of new housing communities in Southern Iran, a sports complex in Saudi Arabia and the landscape design for a major airport in Iraq with RHWL.

After co-founding Glasspoole Thomson in 1979 Neil consulted on a range of overseas commissions while also designing projects throughout the UK. Through the 1980s and 1990s Neil worked in most of the countries in the Middle and Near East and also worked in Malaysia and other countries in the Far East. His spread of work has been particularly wide ranging.

Neil is a keen landscape painter and illustrator. He lived and worked in London for twenty years until 2005 before moving to South Oxfordshire. Neil is married to a South African and has a son.

Neil Thomson offers a personal design service, carrying through quality schemes, whilst keeping to budget and programme. He is an experienced Landscape Architect and offers clients a thoughtful service, flexibility of approach and a thorough understanding of complex environmental issues.
